We're Hiring a School Food Champions Executive

Be part of the creative and agile team behind Bite Back 2030’s exceptional teenage activists. Join us as our School Food Champions Executive and contribute to a 10-year journey to help make the food system healthier and fairer and achieve our goal of halving childhood obesity by 2030.
Young people today are up against a flood of unhealthy food, pouring out of our highstreets, supermarkets and school canteens. As a result processed foods, snacks, soft drinks and takeaways, are playing too big a role in their lives. Junk food is cheap and easy to access at a time when 3.3m young people under the age of 18 are overweight or obese. Rates among our poorest are double those of our wealthiest young people.
Covid-19 has only further served to highlight the injustices in the food system and sharpen the focus on the impact obesity has on health outcomes. There is a political moment now to accelerate change.
We believe young people are the key voice in driving this change in our food system. It is a really exciting time to join the organisation - we are still a start-up but with ambitious plans for growth and impact.
Co-founded by Jamie Oliver and launched in October 2019, our Youth Board have already featured widely in the media campaigning on a range of issues including Free School Meals, a 9pm watershed on junk food advertising and the upcoming Trade Deals.
We have recently received funding from the #iWill Fund to deliver a brand new social action programme for schools, called Bite Back School Food Champions. School Food Champions will run across 150 schools over the next two years, involving 2000 young people and impacting the lives of many more. We are now seeking an organised and self-motivated individual to join as School Food Champions Executive, reporting to the iWill Programme Manager.
The School Food Champions (SFC) Executive will play a key role, supporting the design and delivery of SFC to ensure it is a success and can make the greatest possible impact in schools. They will also support our community of schools during their time on the programme. Key responsibilities include:
- Provide ongoing support to SFC schools through their enrolment process and throughout their time on the programme
- Regular check ins with all schools, being the first point of contact for the lead teacher in each school
- Support monitoring and evaluation through ensuring completion of baseline and end of year surveys, and conduct feedback sessions with pupils and teachers
- Share examples of best social action projects each month amongst SFC community
- Support the recruitment of our second cohort of SFC schools for 2022/23
- Coordinate Youth Board / Youth Leader mentors (where applicable)
- Support creation of termly newsletters / emails to all SFC schools
- Create case studies to share with our media team
Systems / operational support
- Manage SFC inbox
- Upload new materials to our TeacherHub platform as required
- Keeping iWill information management system up to date
- Management of SFC section of Bite Back CRM system, keeping data up to date and accurate
- Management of SendGrid email system and creation of automated email campaigns
We are looking for someone with:
- A passion for young people’s health, nutrition and social justice
- A can-do attitude and great sense of humor.
- Strong organisational skills
- Great communications skills and a proven record of building relationships across sectors, with young people and adults.
- Excellent writing skills.
- Experience of working with CRM systems (desirable)
- Experience of working with schools and teachers (desirable)
- Understanding of youth social action and extracurricular programmes (desirable)
We are open and flexible so this role can be a full-time role or can flex to 4 days per week depending on the availability and preference of the chosen candidate. Bite Back is London-based, but we are open to candidates based in other locations, provided you can occasionally travel to London as required.
