ABOUT BITE BACK 2030

Be part of the creative and agile team behind Bite Back 2030’s exceptional teenage activists. Join us as our Campaigns Manager and contribute to a 10-year journey to help make the food system healthier and fairer and achieve our goal of halving childhood obesity by 2030.

Young people today are up against a flood of unhealthy food, pouring out of our highstreets, supermarkets and school canteens. As a result processed foods, snacks, soft drinks and takeaways, are playing too big a role in their lives.  Junk food is cheap and easy to access at a time when 3.3m young people under the age of 18 have overweight or obesity. Rates among our poorest are double those of our wealthiest young people.

Covid-19 has only further served to highlight the injustices in the food system and sharpen the focus on the impact obesity has on health outcomes.  There is a political moment now to accelerate change.

We believe young people are the key voice in driving this change in our food system.  It is a really exciting time to join the organisation - we are still a start-up but with ambitious plans for growth and impact.  Co-founded by Jamie Oliver and launched in October 2019, our Youth Board have already had campaign successes on a  range of issues including Free School Meals, a 9pm watershed on television junk food advertising and post-Brexit trade.

We are now seeking a creative, self-motivated individual to join as Campaigns Manager reporting to the Head of Campaigns. You will collaborate across  our small and agile team and work closely with our young activists to develop campaigns that capture public imagination and secure impactful policy change.  We are committed to increasing the diversity of our team and especially encourage people from underrepresented backgrounds to apply.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Campaigns Manager will be critical to developing campaigns that galvanise a wide range of stakeholders. You will work closely with the communications, policy and digital teams to ensure our campaigns are youth-led, evidence-based and creative.  Key responsibilities include:

  • Research: Uncover audience insights, conduct landscape reviews of previous campaigns, share creative inspiration from other campaigns.
  • Strategy development: Translate audience insights and policy context into campaign messaging, actions and timings.
  • Campaign planning: Identify key actions for different audiences to take that will influence change. Work with the mobilisation team to build a journey that will motivate these audiences to participate and continuously build engagement.
  • Stakeholder relations: Draft letters and briefing notes to policymakers, Government and NGO peers.
  • Youth engagement: Work with the members of our Youth Board to develop their creative ideas and incorporate them into the campaign plan. Actively engage our youth supporters with our campaign planning and ensure all campaigns are youth-led.
  • Campaign copywriting: Draft petitions, open letters and other tentpole campaign copy that must reflect a nuanced understanding of the policy landscape.
  • Content support: Serve as a resource of audience and campaign messaging expertise for the mobilisation team as they develop campaign content. Lead on the development of central pieces of campaign content, working in coordination with the mobilisation and communications teams.
  • Creative thinking: Work with mobilisation and communications teams to translate policy needs/objectives into publicly engaging content/stunts/activations.
  • Data: Apply data and interim campaign results to inform new campaigns and the evolution of existing campaigns.
  • Campaign project management: Track team roles and responsibilities throughout campaign development and execution. Ensure progress and new tasks are kept up to date in the project management software system.

We are looking for someone with:

  • A passion for young people’s health, nutrition and social justice
  • A can-do attitude and great sense of humor
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Knowledge of the political landscape and understanding of how Westminster works
  • Experience building campaigns to influence decision makers
  • The ability to work flexibly and collaboratively across a small, dynamic team and Youth Board
  • Understanding of the value of both traditional and social media to campaigns
  • Experience of stakeholder relations, particularly in the NGO and political sectors
  • Interest in what motivates the public, particularly young people, to take action for a cause
  • Creative flair and proven track record of developing and commissioning high-quality creative content (including on a tight budget)

We are open and flexible so this role can be a full-time role or can flex to 4 days per week depending on the availability and preference of the chosen candidate. Bite Back is London-based, but we are open to candidates based in other locations, provided you can occasionally travel to London as required.
